As a native of San Diego, California, one of the most beautiful and temperate spots on this earth, I hope to share my appreciation for our scenic wonders through my watercolors. It is a locale that offers a great variety of subjects plus weather that allows me to paint outdoors almost every day of the year.

A dedicated high school art instructor, believing in my potential, was instrumental in my receiving a scholarship to Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. During my four years there, I was able to spend two years time studying with Rex Brandt, an incredible "California School" water-colorist.

After graduating from Chouinard, I served two years with the army in Tokyo heading up a small art department. Returning to San Diego, I began a thirty-five year association with a major San Diego advertising agency as art director and later became a partner in a small agency.

Work and raising a family were my priorities with very little time left for other artistic endeavors. Once retired, I headed for the beautiful coastline in and around La Jolla and renewed my passion for the wonders of watercolor.

I am a plein-air painter -- that is, I paint strictly on location with everything spread out right in front of the easel. How extraordinary it is to watch the surf, see the tides roll in and out, the incredible and always-changing colors of the area's coastline. While painting, I've met local beach walkers and folks from all over the world. (I will talk to anyone--except when I'm in the middle of a wash!)

Success in selling my paintings right off the easel encouraged me to expand my horizons via the Internet by producing a series of high-quality prints of some of my watercolors. I figure if you can't actually visit San Diego, enjoying a watercolor of the beautiful coastline is the next best thing. The prints are indistinguishable from the original watercolor paintings, printed on a high-grade watercolor stock, using archival quality pigmented ink.
