Biography

Puerto Rican full time painter in portrait and other commissions; former professor at different Universities in her hometown, Aguadilla; workshop instructor and art jurist. Active in watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, mixed media, xylographs, monotypes. Has had 68 solo exhibitions and more than 80 group shows in the United States and Puerto Rico. Her watercolors have participated and won awards in National and International Competitions. They have also been published on the covers of Telephone Directories, Tourist Guides, novels, postcards, history and poetical books. She has spoken and exhibited on television and radio shows and has been featured in numerous magazine and newpaper articles. Mrs. Robles studied at the University of Puerto Rico and has widely visited museums in Europe, Venezuela, México and the United States. Signature member of the Watercolor Association of Puerto Rico (Asociación de Acuarelistas de Puerto Rico ,AAPR). She also holds memberships in the American Society of Portrait Artists (ASOPA), The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA); listed in The World Who's Who of Women, Cambridge, England 1992; included in the International Dictionary of Biographies, 1993-94. Honored by Senate of PR, Exchange Club, Civic Women Club, Unión Mujeres Americanas. Her paintings are in public and private collections in PR, Venezuela, Argentina, México and the United States. Such as in: University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez and Aguadilla Campus; Interamerican University, Colegio San Carlos, Autoridad de Comunicaciones,Clínica San Francisco de Guadalajara, México, Judith Morell de La Pampa, Argentina. Estela is fluent in English and Spanish. Some Italian. Loves reading, photography, traveling and computers.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have been a fortunate person living in an atmosphere of love and beauty. Art is somewhat like an obssession. My mind "paints" all day everything I see and feel around me as a prospective painting. I aspire to transport the viewers to wonder and know more of the ambient of peace, serenity and beauty of the people, landscapes and traditions of Puerto Rico and my home town, Aguadilla. That's why I call my paintings "Healthy for the Soul" because I capture and describe my experiences of scenes of beauty and happy aspects of daily life that makes you feel well, relaxed and tranquil. They are ordinary scenes with a touch of court-day, graceful and pleasing to the eye. I present my "subjects" with dignity of personage, be them a child or adult, rich of poor, black, white or yellow, perishing flowers, extinguished light, old house, monument or building, boats or pets. They are estethically pleasing and fresh; emotionally joyful and clear; technically convincing and realistic. Well, maybe that is the way I was taught to be... to respect everything around me and look for its positive aspect. Hanged on the walls, the framed paintings, look as an opened window to nature or the street. My goal is to create works with museum quality so they will be worth and wise the inversion for art collectors as well as my own satisfaction and self esteem. I know that my paintings can enrich peoples lives because, besides decorating the physical environment, I integrate them to real everyday life, dramatizing the ordinary scenes, giving the main subjects poetical qualities, with harmonius contrasts of natural light and/or luminous effects and happy bold tropical colors.
