Information About the Artist

Mary Heussenstamm began her career as a watercolorist at age 59, painting multiethnic watercolor portraits from models found on the streets of Los Angeles. All her paintings are from live models, painted out-of-doors in natural light, and they are completed in less than one hour. Mary received the Artist of the Year Award by the Pasadena Arts Council and also won the award as Visiting Artist at Pasadena City College by the Pasadena Artist Alliance. She has had dozens of one-man shows in museums and libraries throughout Southern California and is well known for her lively and engaging slide presentations of her portraits. In September, 2000, a beautiful book of 100 of her multiethnic watercolor portraits was published, entitled WATERCOLOR PORTRAITS PAINTED ON THE STREETS OF LOS ANGELES, representing a selection of her finest works over the past eleven years.
