Waihang Lai, A.W.S.

Waihang Lai is known for his watercolor, oriental brush painting, and computer art. He has mastered, with skill and imagination, the delicate technique involved in watercolor. In his paintings, each contact between brush and paper is an expressive conveyance of emotion. In this electronic age, he brings the same depth of perception to the computer, which he views not only as a powerful sketchpad, but also an innovative artistic tool to explore and translate ideas into breathtaking imagery. A signature member of the American Watercolor Society and Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Lai is included in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in American Education. He also is the president of the Kauai Watercolor Society and Kauai Oriental Art Soicety. Mr. Lai is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and earned his M.A. degree in art from Claremont Graduate University in California. He previously taught at Arizona State University, Tempe; Mauna Olu College, Hawai'i; and has been teaching at Kaua'i Community College, University of Hawaii since 1970.
